John Deere S7 combines get more power and updated cab

Single-rotor S7 combine harvesters from John Deere have been treated to a host of updates, including new engines, cabin and residue management systems.

Power ranges from 402 to 533hp (436 to 593hp with boost), which is delivered by a 13.6-litre six-cylinder block in the S7 800, 850 and 900, and a 9-litre unit in the smaller S7 700.

Deere says efficiency has been improved across the range by giving the models the same residue management system as the larger twin-rotor X9.

Together with its straight-blade knives and mechanical drive, it claims to evenly spread residues up to 45ft (13.7m), while reducing power drain by 15hp.

There’s also an adjustable unloading auger spout which can be controlled from the cab for more precise filling of trailers.

The new cabin has filtered down from the X9, with features such as a high-definition corner screen, integrated GPS receiver and the latest G5 Plus Command Center display.

Optional automation systems are available too, enabling the machine to adjust five settings on the move.

These aim to reduce losses, clean up the sample and limit the number of broken grains.

So called “predictive ground speed automation” is another addition.

This monitors the crop using several different information sources, including satellite biomass maps and machine-mounted cameras, before adjusting the speed of the machine to suit.
