Nominations open for FW’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award

Farmers Weekly’s Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the highest accolades in agriculture – and you can help us find a worthy winner for 2024.

This award, made to just one person each year, goes to someone who has made a unique and special contribution to farming over a prolonged period.

In 2023, it was won by John Thorley (pictured) for his enduring contribution to the sheep industry, including dedicating nearly four decades of his life to the National Sheep Association, ensuring the voice of sheep farmers was heard across the UK, Europe and the world.

The award went to George Dunn in 2022. The chief executive of the Tenant Farmers Association (TFA) has worked on behalf of tenant farmers for 25 years, raising awareness of the issues they face in tandem with making a huge contribution to the landlord-tenant sector and agriculture more widely.

Another popular winner from past years was Caroline Drummond who took the award in 2019. Caroline had worked tirelessly for almost three decades for the charity Linking Environment And Farming (Leaf).

From its humble beginnings in 1991, Leaf grew under her leadership to become a hugely influential organisation, encouraging more sustainable farming practices and improving public understanding of farming and the environment.

So if you know someone who deserves recognition, please let us know. They might be a farmer or work for an industry organisation, company or charity.

They could be an academic, scientist or professional working in an ancillary trade or profession. But if they have made a big difference to farming or farming families over the decades, they could be our 2024 winner.
